DESIGNER: AKENETA - TACI
1. What made you want to be a fashion designer? From a very young age I was always drawn to shoes and clothes, it was something about the many options and choices that really intrigued me. I wanted to see everything and explore all the different patterns, shapes, and textures. What made me want to become a Fashion designer, was when I realised how much of an impact a gorgeous piece of clothing can make you feel within, and how your mood and confidence can change just like that. So to know that I can create a garment that could possibly empower someone is what really inspires me.
2. What does fashion mean to you? Fashion to me means diversity. There is so much you can do with a piece of fabric. There are no rules. It’s almost like wearing your personality on the outside. What you wear is how you feel.
3. Do you draw from cultural influences? This collection is very much inspired by my cultures, specifically the traditional fabrics. I have also incorporated some pieces traditionally worn at special occasions such as the ‘salu salu’ (Fijian) and the ‘Aquajan’ (Ghanaian) both worm at weddings, celebrations, and welcoming’s. 4. Can you tell a little about your PR19 collection? My collection ‘TACI’ is about bringing my Fijian and Ghanaian cultures together and creating garments incorporating the traditional fabrics. I describe my collection to be high fashion streetwear.
5. Will this collection be available for sale and where? Some of my pieces will be available via social mediaInstagram- @akeneta.n
